THe Hayoole model school has gotten the first Learning Lab in the Sidamo Zone of the SNNPR. Teacher training is complete and both teachers and students are making good use of this new technology. The Learning Lab provides easy contact with all the Ethiopian government texts and videos for STEM subjects as well as supplementary material. This material includes Khan Academy, Phet simulations, CK-12 texts and Wikipedia for schools. It is all installed on a local server. THey access this material with 31 Chromebooks connecting to a local server and no Internet is required. A projector is included for use of the teachers during class time. More installations are expected in Sidamo during the coming year.
ET Learns technology is now available in the Northern region of Ethiopia. "In the future we may stop printing hard-copy textbooks if we have these technologies in all schools," Dr. Kefiyalewu said.
